About the Tequila Sunrise
Popularized in the 1970s, closely tied to its adoption by the Rolling Stones during their 1972 US tour. Simpler, earlier tequila-and-orange-juice versions existed before that popularization moment.
Ingredients
- Tequila2 oz
- Orange juice4 oz , to top
- Grenadine½ oz
Method
- Fill a highball with ice.
- Measure and pour the tequila into the glass.
- Top with orange juice.
- Slowly pour the grenadine down the inside of the glass so it sinks.
- Do not stir.
Glass & Garnish
Highball glass, full of ice. Garnish with a half orange slice (or a curl of orange zest), left unstirred so the grenadine settles.
Notes
Real grenadine (pomegranate-based) makes a real difference. Garnish with orange slice and cherry. Pairs well with brunch food.
