Vermouth Flip

The Flip format's lowest-proof version — fortified wine instead of spirit.
Every recipe on Sipped Right is tested at home before it's published — not just written.
Origin
A lower-ABV Flip variant, same 19th-century format as Jerry Thomas's 1862 guide, applied here to vermouth instead of whiskey, rum, or gin.
Flavour Profile
Good for the Flip's rich, silky texture at a much lower proof. Not for someone who wants any real spirit strength.
Glass & Garnish
Small coupe glass.

Ingredients
- Sweet vermouth2 oz
- Simple syrup0.25 oz, optional
- Egg1, whole

Method
- Add vermouth, syrup, egg to a shaker — no ice.
- Dry shake hard 15 seconds.
- Add ice, shake again 10 seconds.
- Double-strain into a small chilled coupe.
- Grate nutmeg on top.

Notes
Uses a whole raw egg — small salmonella risk, use pasteurized if that's a concern. Taste the vermouth before adding syrup — many need none. Pairs well with light, savoury bites.
