Juneteenth Bourbon Strawberry Cooler

Muddled strawberries, bourbon, and a soda top — a drink built for the table, not the bar.

Origin
A modern, celebratory build created for Juneteenth (June 19th), marking the announcement of freedom for enslaved people across the United States. Bourbon coolers as a general style date back over a century, but this specific fruit pairing is a contemporary combination, not an inherited recipe.
Flavour Profile
Good for a gathering where the drink should feel bright and shareable — sweet strawberry and honey lead, bourbon and lemon keep it from tipping into dessert territory. Not a strong, spirit-forward pour; built for sipping through a long afternoon.
Glass & Garnish
Rocks glass, over ice.

Ingredients
- Bourbon2 oz
- Fresh strawberries3, muddled
- Fresh lemon juice0.5 oz
- Honey syrup0.5 oz
- Soda water~2 oz, to top

Method
- Muddle strawberries in the bottom of a rocks glass.
- Add bourbon, lemon juice, and honey syrup.
- Fill with ice, stir once.
- Top with soda water, garnish with mint.

Notes
Make honey syrup with equal parts honey and warm water. For a batch, multiply everything but soda by guest count, top individually at serving time. Common mistake: over-muddling strawberries into mush, clouding the drink. Pairs well with grilled or barbecued food.
